An Interview with Laura Marvin
Janice Cain: Here I am sitting on my front porch with a glass of iced tea. Wait! Who do I see coming down the street… It's Laura Marvin! Hi Laura! Come and let me introduce you to our neighbors.
Thanks, but before we do this interview, I would like people to know that I would not be the person I am without my Mother's unconditional love. She taught my brother, my sister and me to be honest, fair, have good values and always make sure that family comes first.
Janice Cain: I am glad you brought up good family values because they say self-discipline and good self-care through regular exercise go together and we usually see you walking along Second Street getting yours. Tell us about your walk.
Well, I walk from my home on Roslyn to Whipple and back… 3000–4000 steps. If you don't see me walking, I am at the Y working out.
Janice Cain: That seems like a lot of steps. Have you ever walked in the HOF Parade?
No, but I have volunteered for the last 17 years through the Chamber of Commerce. Projects included Queen's Rehearsal, Pageant, Ribs Burn off, and Enshrinement Lunch and Dinner. Then the last two years I volunteered at the main HOF for the enshrinement and presentation of the busts. Also, I walked the Budweiser Clydesdales when they were in town.
Janice Cain: That's so interesting, and down the road, what is your retirement dream?
I would like to get a small house in Orlando and explore part time positions with Disney, in my field, where I could be an inspiration to others dealing with mental health issues, domestic abuse and drugs. I love to interact with people who have these issues.
Janice Cain: Yes, with your multiple degrees in Social Work and Leadership that would be a fulfilling role. Thanks for taking a few minutes to tell us about yourself. Now, go finish your walk, my friend.
